Mikela - About a year ago, Jeff asked me to participate in a very new concept idea he had ~ a photo series of women 40+, at home in their environment… nude. Throughout many years as a model, on occasion nudity was something that my job called for. I'm used to being a muse, beginning with sitting for my hyper-realist painter-mother at a very early age. I've shot many editorial spreads for magazines, advertising, covers, billboards & music videos, both here at home in Canada & abroad. I've played a rainbow of characters in various film & television productions. Sometimes a role would require nudity, with 150 crew members present while I was alone naked on set. Unless of course it was a love-scene, requiring my 'partner' to be as well.
Very rarely have I shot with photographers I didn't trust or feel they captured the 'real me', & to this day I feel uneasy about those experiences. I never thought I would literally expose so much of myself again, tho when Jeff suggested a safe place I felt comfortable in, I immediately thought of nature. A body of water, surrounded by trees & green, lots of sky, hopefully clouds. These things I gravitate toward having lived on farms, islands, mountains, remote sanctuaries. Jeff found the perfect location, & with a trusted friend each to assist we drove out of the city on a magical afternoon. With all of my wishes met I felt safe in his company, & safe with my naked 'partner' the rushing stream... surrounded by rocks, cloudy sky, trees & green. At 48, never has one picture, out of all the thousands of images taken of me over these many years, come close to revealing me as this one does.
